Bid for Hope VII Raises Over $125,000
for Breast Cancer Research
Bid for Hope VII, hosted at Bettis’ Grille 36 by Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl champion and tight end, Heath Miller, was an outstanding success, helping to raise over $125,000 for breast cancer research.
”We are extremely excited that in a down economy we were able to raise this significant amount of funds to help further fund the nation’s largest under-40 breast cancer study,” said Diana Napper, the foundation’s director. “This year marked the start of a new phase for us with Heath and Katie Miller taking over for Alan and Julie Faneca, who have been dedicated to our cause for so many years and also attended the event to show their support.”
”It’s something Alan and Julie started a while back. I have always enjoyed attending and at the same time it’s been for a good cause,” said Miller. ”When Alan left, he asked me to take over. I couldn’t let anything like this end and I was glad to do it.”
Funds were raised through ticket sales, as well as a silent and live auction that included one-of-a-kind autographed sports items and memorabilia. Miller’s invited teammates that attended this year included Hines Ward, Ben Roethlisberger, Brett Keisel, Max Starks, Marvel Smith and Charlie Batch, just to name a few.
