Event of the Month - February 2007

The Glass Slipper Ball – A Perfect Fit for Anyone Who Enjoys Fabulous Food and Wonderful Wine!

By Rosemary Garrity

For those among us who are inclined to want only “the best,” we have THE event for you.  The fourth annual Glass Slipper Ball will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2007, at the Four Points Sheraton in Cranberry. This charity fundraiser will once again feature the best of the North Hills chefs.

This year there is an added feature. “What goes better with fantastic food than beautiful wines?” asked event chair, Debra Dion Krischke.  “When we were brainstorming on what could be added to this fabulous event, the choice was clear--wineries.”  So now, this addition of great wines will make the evening even more special.  Barefoot Cellars, Laird Wine and Spirits, Bartolomeo Pio, Chaddsford Winery, Christian W.  Klay, and The Wine Boss will supply the libations.

Chefs from approximately two dozen area restaurants will prepare a variety of sumptuous hors d’oeuvres and desserts to sample.  The restaurants that will be represented are: Four Points Sheraton, Stone Mansion Restaurant, Willow, Atria’s  Bravo, SiBA, Wildwood Golf Club,  China Palace, Fresco’s,  In The Kitchen, Serenitea,  John Marshall Catering, Keylmpact, Magoo’s, Wexford Post Office Deli, Camelot, Springfield Grille, Dominic’s Desserts,  The Hartwood Restaurant, Ugandan Gold Coffee, Marktfrau, and Shakespeare’s.

Krischke along with co-chairs Jane Joy and Barb Claus are very excited about this year’s Glass Slipper Ball, which is expected to attract over 500 people.  The proceeds will benefit Zonta Three Rivers North.  This fundraiser has already earned more than $160,000 and the money is used to assist women throughout the area.  The North Hills chapter is the local chapter of Zonta International.  This worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions works to improve the status of women.  The local chapter meets on the second Wednesday of each month at The Chadwick in Wexford. The group responds to requests and awards scholarships through a variety of organizations such as North Hills Community Outreach, HEARTH, and P.O.W.E.R.

KDKA personality Mary Robb Jackson is the Celebrity Master of Ceremonies and Dr. Zoot, featuring Red Hot Swing and Latin Jazz, will provide the music for participants to dance the night away.

The silent auction tables will be filled with sports memorabilia, theater tickets, golf packages, lovely jewelry, and much more. Modern Piano is also donating the Baby Grand Player Piano and All About Youth is donating about $1,500 worth of facial services. Some other very exciting items include VIP passes to Steelers training camp and a behind-the-scenes tour of KDKA with Jon Burnett!

There will be something for everyone. Attendees will have great time bidding on these wonderful gifts. Of course, knowing that the proceeds will be used to support such a worthwhile cause, may make the bidders even more generous.

For those who may want to forget the drive home, The Four Points Sheraton will be offering a special room rate of $89 for the night.  Interested parties can call for reservations at 724-776-6900.

Tickets to this spectacular event are on sale now, and it is recommended that they should be purchased early as the Glass Slipper Ball sells out every year.  For interested parties who may want to become program sponsors or advertisers, it is still not too late to get involved.  Call Debra Krischke at 724-775-8299 or visit www.GlassSlipperBall.com for more information.
