Finding
Your True Colors
What season are you?
by Paula Green
Several years ago, my sisters, Julie and Lisa, and I ventured
to Ross Park Mall. We actually weren’t setting off on a
shopping spree; we had something more fun in mind.
We were on a quest to
unlock our beauty
secrets and find out
what season each of
us fell under. We discovered this
helpful information through a beauty
consultant as she analyzed our colors.
Knowing your color season can
help you to chose the right shades of
makeup, clothing, jewelry and accessories.
Your season is determined by
the undertone of your skin, either
warm or cool. Another factor to look
at is your eye and hair coloring. If
your hair is gray, use the color of
your hair prior to going gray.
Let’s take a look at our four seasons
and see if you can determine
which one you are.
Welcome to spring! A “spring”
individual’s coloration is bright and
sunny. They usually have golden
blonde hair, golden brown or red
hair. Their eye coloring is blue, blue
gray, blue green or light turquoise
green.
A “spring” person should avoid
dark shades. Instead, select clear,
true colors like cadet navy or golden
shades like olive, golden brown,
camel and gray green. Avoid black
and pure white. Accent color should
be bright such as greens, yellows,
blue as well as coral and salmon.
Some famous “spring” ladies are:
Charlize Theron, Jodie Foster and
Nicole Kidman.
Next we have summer; a “summer”
person’s overall coloring is most
delicate and understated of all the
season. Their hair coloring is generally
ash blonde, light ash blonde, and
eye coloring is blue gray or blue
green.
“Summers” should avoid harsh
contrasts by keeping the entire look
calm and in complete harmony.
Choose toned-down colors like subdued
navy blue, gray green, bluegrays,
blue-reds, charcoals, rose
browns, powder blue, dusty pink and
lemon yellow. A few stars that shine
under the “summer” season are: Cate
Blanchett and Uma Thurman.
On to “autumn” whose natural
coloring is fiery, earthy golden and
natural.

An “autumn” can wear both
muted and rich, warm colors like the
autumn foliage or exotic spice colors.
Their hair coloring is golden brown,
red auburn or chestnut. Their eyes
are dark brown, hazel or green.
When choosing clothes, pick
golden browns and rich warm grays,
avoid clear bright shades, pure white
and black. Also stay away from true
pastel colors which can give you a
pale and sickly appearance. Some
famous celebs that “fall” under the
autumn category: Angelina Jolie,
Jennifer Lopez and Debra Messing.
Our final season is “winter.” A
“winter” person’s coloring is crisp and
distinctive. They have rich and
intense hair coloring; black, or ash
black brown. Their eyes are: blue,
brown, hazel or green.
“Winters” can wear deep, rich
colors accented with jewel tones and
can even wear bright white or icy
pastels. Dark suits with cool under
tones like dark navy, charcoal or black
will complement your dynamic coloring.
Avoid earth tones which can
make you look shadowed. A few starlets
that “chill out” with this season
are: Elizabeth Hurley, Geena Davis
and Jamie Lee Curtis.
My sisters and I are not celebrities,
but we felt like stars as we had
our colors analyzed at the mall. As it
turned out, we were all different seasons.
Julie is a “winter,” Lisa, an
“autumn,” and I am a “summer.”
Take a look in the mirror. Study
your skin tone, hair and eyes and perhaps
you can find your true colors and
determine what season are you.
