Senior Connection: Local Senior Care Facilities

Senior Connection: Local Senior Care Facilities

Assisted Living – The Elmcroft Way

The Elmcroft way of caring for seniors begins with committed, caring people in a warm and welcoming environment where residents receive personalized services and opportunities for meaningful interaction and recreation.

Elmcroft takes pride in its associates, carefully selecting only those who demonstrate a generous heart, a warm spirit and a genuine compassion for others.  While many places can assist with the activities of daily living, Elmcroft reaches beyond these everyday needs and strives to enrich the unique life of each resident.

Elmcroft’s goal is to provide an inviting place for residents to enjoy their friends, their families and their independence.

Hope Hospice

At Hope Hospice, we believe in quality and compassionate care for our clients and families facing end of life issues.  Our care and support of our clients comes in many forms - physical, spiritual and emotional.

The hospice team addresses the needs of patients and families in all of these areas.  Those who have experienced hospice often tell us, ”We wish we would have received hospice care sooner.”

Earlier referrals to hospice result in better quality of life for patients in their remaining months.  They allow patients to benefit from pain and symptom management while they are still well enough to live each day to the fullest.  While it is most common for physicians to make a hospice referral, any loved one can make a referral as well. Hospice is covered by Medicare and most other insurances.

Reformed Presbyterian Home

Many suburbanites look at Pittsburgh as a place to visit, not to live.  But a growing number of retired persons who want stimulation, not isolation, are moving into town.  They are leaving behind the cares of home ownership for a simpler lifestyle where entertainment, shopping, major hospitals and transportation services are readily available.  RPH, a Continuing Care Retirement Community that has been serving seniors since 1897, is offering stylish new apartments just minutes from the Point.  We invite you to contact us for more information at 1 800 RP HELLO.  You can be in your lovely, maintenance-free apartment before the first snow flake falls.  Enjoy the peace of mind that comes from living in a community that meets your needs now and in the future.

Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community (Part of UPMC Senior Communities)

With its indoor, heated swimming pool, fitness center and expansive, green campus, Sherwood Oaks is planning for the next generation of retirees. The retirement community opened in 1982 after careful planning by a group of Pittsburgh retirees who said they wanted to give their friends the option to stay in Pittsburgh during their retirement. After years of studying other communities in and out of Pennsylvania, they patterned Sherwood Oaks after the best of what they had observed.

Today, the retirement community has an expanded health and wellness program, more dining options, and is building new apartments and patio homes. Also on the planning board is a new health center offering private health accommodations.  Throughout these changes, however, Sherwood Oaks continues as a community where active retirees enjoy the benefits of a carefree, independent lifestyle with the backup of on-site health care and unlimited nursing care.  For information, call (800) 642-2217.
